Changing or resetting your password
Change your password in Settings, reset a forgotten one, and what happens to your other devices.

You can change your password from Sign-in & security, or reset it from the sign-in page if you've forgotten it.
Changing your password
Open your avatar menu, then Settings, then Sign-in & security.
Under Password, choose Change password.
Confirm it's you. Unless you signed in within the last few minutes, enter your Current password, or choose Sign in again instead. With two-step verification on, you'll also need a code from your authenticator app or a backup code.
Enter your New password and New password again, then choose Change password.
Your password changes right away. You stay signed in here, and every other device is signed out. We email you to confirm.
Use a long password you don't use anywhere else. If the page refuses one, it says why: it's too short, it's too easy to guess, or it has appeared in a known data breach.
After five wrong current passwords, the page asks you to wait 15 minutes, or to sign in again instead.
If you sign in with Google
The Password section says You sign in with Google, and there's no password to change here. Your Google account's password is managed by Google.
If you have a password too but signed in with Google this time, sign out, sign in with your password, and try again.
If you've forgotten it
If you're signed in, choose Sign out at the bottom of your avatar menu.
On the sign-in page, choose Forgot password.
Follow the link in the email to choose a new password.
If two-step verification is on, it stays on. You'll still need a code or a backup code to finish signing in. See Lost your phone? Getting back into your account if you can't get one.
If you reset your password because you think someone else got in, open Signed-in devices afterward and check the list.
If some devices stay signed in
Now and then your password changes but we can't reach every device. The page says so and offers Sign out other devices. Choose it to try again. Your new password is already in place.
If you didn't change it
If you get an email saying your password was changed and it wasn't you, reset it right away with Forgot password on the sign-in page, then reply to that email so we can help.
